Year 2019
Hey, have you heard the good news?
In the Fall I had gone to the leadership conference at Adam Hamilton’s Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City. I got home on Friday night packed and left Sunday afternoon after the baptism of James. I was rather hurried in packing and had to leave enough room for Nancy and her suitcase. I did combine a Nancy vacation with my hermit pilgrimage in one jaunt. I drove to meet Nancy in Savannah GA. I picked her up at the airport and then we drove to Jekyll Island. I left Jekyll Island and took Nancy back to the airport. I then began to camp and visit more Civil War parks. I camped in Georgia, Tennessee, and the Cumberland Gap where the campground was in Virginia, the visitor center in Kentucky, and the church and restaurant I went to were in Tennessee. I saw Kennesaw Mountain for the first-time, then revisited Chickamauga and Look Out Mountain. This time at Chickamauga I got to climb up in the Wilder’s Brigade tower, and I hiked the trail from Cravens House to Point Park. This is the Battle above the Clouds site. I met a tween hiking ahead of his mother, father, and younger sister down from Park Point. He looked at me as we met and said a real hiker. His tone indicated hiking down the trail was not his idea. I didn’t even have my stick, but of course did have my karma hat. A couple of observations do not go any ways near Atlanta. Gen. Sherman should return, and this time require them to rebuild with proper transportation systems. Second observation don’t go anywhere near Atlanta.
After a stop in Maysville KY where I had hotel room and ESPN to watch the Packers. I did a couple days genealogy stuff. Found out I am related to William B. Phillips, a six X uncle, and the second mayor of Maysville who built a house called Phillips Folly. I didn’t find all my answers. I have more battlefields to visit; another trip will have to be planned. Once I was back, I tried to catch up with the church and my assessor job. I also spent Sunday afternoons in Ecumenical Singers practice. I had told Leo I couldn’t start for the first few practices. He asked, are going on a safari? I didn’t shoot anything. I participated in the 40th Ecu Christmas concert last night. It made me realize it actually is Christmas. This got me going on this letter which came out just in time to top off your disappointing year. I have been a part of the Ecumenical Singers concerts for nearly all of the 40 years. Once again, the age thing finds a way to remind me. I simply ignore the nagging voice of age, just as I have the nagging voice of propriety my entire life. It was a great year except for the destruction of our planet, justice, rule of law, and few other things of consequence.
