A Beautiful Valley
--- on the long walk home. The home they walked back into in a year such as 1828 ( the year Lincoln left Indiana on a flatboat expedition ) would have been muddier, smokier, and smellier than the beautiful valley of today. I can live with paved streets and just imagine the mud, smoke, and smell.
Water can produce an impressive power
The State of Indiana keeps the mill maintained and in working condition. Corn meal ground by the mill can be purchased from the miller. Also, the sawmill is run to demonstrate wood cutting during the day. Pioneer Village is a great experience. Nancy wanted to do the boat tour of the cave, but the tour schedule was full for the day. We only could spend a couple of hours before leaving, so I am glad we got to see the mill.
