Turning the Frantic Family into A Fulfilling Family
Jesus had gone to learn, the style of teaching was to ask questions of those gathered. Jesus had shown in his questions and answers such deep insight and understanding that all those in the temple were astonished or amazed at his knowledge.
Jesus had found a setting where he was free to explore all his thoughts and reflections on the law as it was taught. In seeking his Father; he became lost and absorbed in this opportunity to explore the spiritual.
When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you."
Jesus was probably surprised to find he had been there almost a week. His parents were astonished at how he was interacting with the most respected scholars in all of Jerusalem. Mary being a Jewish mother after all says ‘why have you treated us like this?” Jesus must have found these scholars so unlike his normal life; his attention was completely captivated by this rare opportunity to learn and explore who he was. He was entirely in the moment. This would be like prying your son away from the X Box to start his homework. Jesus replied:
