I used to joke each major career or life change added ten pounds. So as I turned 60 I was not only older, but fatter as well. If you are only 5 foot 9 with shoes on, then weighing about 255 is, well in modern terms obese. I was buff at 190, but that was over 30 years ago. So as I am adapting to turning 60 and being fat, Nancy wanted to discuss long-term care insurance. I was not enthusiastic. I did suggest it would be better to spend money on joining a gym. In all my reflection, I hadn’t dwelled too long on this possibility; I had never been to a gym. We did join a gym. I was rather embarrassed to even walk in. Nancy had been a member before so she became my support and guide. We have been partners in this for the past six months. Nancy showed me an elliptical, an exercise machine she did not like. I found it a good fit for me, exercise without much impact. I have been on one regularly for six months I now weigh 220. I intend to make 205 by June, which completes a year at this re-adjustment, re-design, re-hab? I make some better choices in diet, but mostly I have upped my activity and fitness level.
